Headlines on Monday morning remain with the aftermath of the horrible shooting of Rep. Scalise and others, meaning a concrete example of evil in our society continues to occupy our collective attention. Such evil must be confronted by all who stand for good in this world, no matter what policies you believe will effect the most good (i.e. your political preferences). Consider 100 people, 50 Democrats and 50 Republicans. If one random person does something evil, or even just wrong, it is incumbent on every one of the other 99 to immediately confront it and label it as evil. Secondary to this immediate reaction is the debate of how to overcome it, which is normal. The key is that debating over how to overcome is secondary to everyone rebuking the evil. In the heated debate over events like last week's, the lines between the debate and the rebuke blur and a starkly evil act gets muddled and fuzzy. Evil itself is not debatable, and the more unfocused an evil act becomes, the harder it is to pinpoint for confrontation. Psalm 94:16 is a challenge to those who stand for goodness, righteousness, and truth. Pray for courage to act and for God to speak through you today against evil.
"Who rises up for me against the wicked? Who stands up for me against evildoers?" -- Psalm 94:16 ESV
