This week promises highly anticipated testimonies from Donald Trump, Jr., former Trump campaign Chairman Paul Manafort, and President Trump’s son-in-law and current White House Advisor, Jared Kushner, in regards to the Russian election interference investigation. With testimony spread throughout the week, political pundits and the news media will almost certainly dissect every word. While a careful and thorough investigation is not a bad thing, interrogating with the intent to ensnare is. Even worse is applying political spin to the facts to blend black and white to gray. Sadly, we live in a time when news ratings stem more from talk that sounds good than reports that are the truth. Fortunately for us, in a world that operates in the gray, the Bible is written in black and white. In Proverbs, Solomon writes that “He who speaks truth tells what is right, but a false witness, deceit.” Even though we are not speaking our opinion to millions on TV, everything we say and do influences those around us. In a week that all but guarantees enhanced speculation and conjecture, let us be the pillars that stand for truth and deflect mischaracterizations of it. Pray today for the patience to wait for the truth and the conviction to live a life in black and white.

“He who speaks truth tells what is right, But a false witness, deceit.” – Proverbs 12:17
