Happy #ElevatedFriday! This week, in Gulfport, Florida, an Uber driver named Chris Farley was placed by God in the right place at the right time. A young man called the Uber and as they were driving, the passenger mentioned that he was recently diagnosed with brain cancer. As Chris and the passenger drove and chatted, Chris noticed that the destination was the center of a 200 foot tall bridge in the area, notorious for suicide. For the rest of the drive, Chris worked with the passenger to deter him from his decision, fighting by trying to signal the bridge workers and EMS teams, as well as just trying to talk the passenger out of it, all to no avail. Finally, upon arrival at the middle of the bridge, Chris’ last ditch effort was to ask to take a selfie with the passenger so he could pray for him. Chris called 911 and emailed that photo to the police, who rescued the man in time. Summing up the night, Chris said, “God put that man in my car tonight for a reason. I’m just glad he is still alive.”
God is always in control, and while prayers are always a must, sometimes God puts us in the right place at the right time to do more than just pray. Thru Christ we are not only strengthened, but also called to act for each other. It’s not about just hoping and praying that things work out for others, it’s about fighting for one another. Chris fought hard, going out of his way, for a man he didn’t even know. It just goes to show that by going out of your way, you go into God’s way. Pray today for open eyes to see others in need and a warrior’s heart to fight for them in Jesus name.
“Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” – 1 Timothy 6:12
