Happy #ElevatedFriday! Many refer to this day as Black Friday, the biggest day for shopping and consumption of the year in the US. For that reason, today we highlight a story of generosity from Greenville, South Carolina that drastically changed a man’s life. Deputy Matt Holman was out driving one night for his shift and saw a homeless man, Robert Morris, walking alone in the rain looking very disheveled. He pulled over to check on Morris, and soon found that Morris had been living in a tent in the woods for months after his alcoholism and addiction, brought on by the death of his father, mother, and sister, had forced him into a life on the streets. Holman and Morris spoke for a while, and Holman felt compelled to give Morris a Bible, something he usually kept several copies of in his police cruiser at all times. This night, however, Holman only had his personal Bible – full of his own notes and highlights. Holman, although reluctant to part ways with his personal Bible, felt God telling him that Morris needed it more than he. After treating Morris to a hot meal, they parted ways. It wasn't until six months later that Holman heard from Morris the good news: because of that gift, Morris had checked himself into rehab and had reconnected with his siblings.

God’s plan is made complete through us. As Deputy Holman’s generosity shows, God expects us to be prepared to give away even the most precious objects in our lives if someone else can be blessed through it. We cannot take our treasure with us to Heaven. Our treasure is best used to bring others to Heaven with us. Today, be a blessing to those you come in contact with, looking for any opening to share the treasure with which you have been blessed.
