Happy #ElevatedFriday! Today we highlight the selfless giving of a home nurse for a man in need. While working in the home of one of her patients, the patient asked nurse Amanda Perez if she could clean his fridge for him. She happily obliged, but when she opened the door, was shocked to see how empty it was. Perez asked him where his food was, and he “looked down as if he was ashamed” and replied that he could only occasionally afford groceries. Despite personally being tight on money, Perez purchased a full fridge worth of food for her patient. In a Facebook post, she said, “This isn’t a post to be noticed, this is a post to show you that there are so many people out there that have it worse than we do. I opened my eyes and realized I need to stop being so mad about what I don’t have and start appreciating what I do have.”

Planned giving, such as our tithes or yearly donations to charity, support countless people across the world. But sometimes, God places a certain person or opportunity in our path that requires our attention and generosity. In these occasions, our giving must be an instantaneous decision, so we must be always in tune with God’s voice and prepared to share what we have. In Hebrews, it says, “Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.” Today, pray for God to guide your path and give you the courage and faith to share what you have with others in need.

“Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.” – Hebrews 13:16 ESV
