The gun control debate continues to rage on across all forms of media, dividing the country once more along political lines. Both sides contend that they stand for the truth and speak the facts. But what really is the truth in all this? Standing for truth requires knowing the truth first. The truth is Jesus and the words he spoke to us while he walked the earth. But when we try to apply the truth in His words to our society, much can be lost in translation. One person, or even many people who agree on the same thing, may have one translation into their lives, but others may differ. Why? Because of preconceived notions and biases—something distinctly human. This is why Jesus asks us to seek Him first. The closer we all get to Him, the closer we are to each other. Jesus said “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Today, consider how Jesus’ teachings can bring you closer to those you disagree with.

“...If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” — John 8:31-32 ESV
