The tragic shooting at YouTube’s headquarters on Tuesday is another sad instance of what happens when people take vengeance into their own hands. It has been reported that the shooter sought revenge for some of the company practices that she felt particularly harmful. Revenge is a slippery slope, and the first thoughts of taking it can soon grow into a raging river of hate. The Book of Romans tells us, “Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” Revenge places our wants ahead of God’s plan. Today, if you still harbor a grudge against a perceived slight, let it go. Forgive that person and allow yourself to move on to all that God has in store for you.
