In a time when politics means so much to so many, how can we rise above it to live a better life? Do we need to just ignore what happens in our government and society? Few things in life are as simple as choosing to receive either all or nothing of something. Most things in life fall in the middle, where we get a little bit of everything. But how can we only allow politics to occupy a small portion of our thoughts? Fortunately, this answer is simple: by remembering that it is an earthly thing. In Colossians, Paul wrote, “Think about the things of heaven, not the things of the earth.” This is not to say that the things of earth do not matter and should not receive some thought, but it does mean that each day, we are to place the importance of heavenly things well above earthly things. By doing this, we will live a life closer to Jesus, more forgiving of each other, and more blessed by God. Today, set your mind upon the things of heaven and demote the things of earth to secondary importance.

“Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.” – Colossians 3:2 NLT
