The Paul Manafort trial has been ongoing for several days and has been making big news. While the prosecution of potential wrong doing is important to any society, wall to wall coverage of such things (or any one particular event) can lead to obsession over our desired outcomes. Obsession is never a good thing as it leads to sin and sinful thoughts. Paul famously wrote, “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” He did so for an important reason. We set our minds on things above because earthly things will always come up short. When we graciously receive blessings from above instead of feeling owed satisfaction by the world, we set ourselves up for a happy life. Today, instead of consuming more news, give thanks for the blessings you have and read a new part of the Bible you haven’t read before (or in a while).

“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” — Colossians 3:2 NIV
