The morning is the time when most people consume their news for the day. Whether by television, internet, or newspaper, we all feel the need to catch up on what is happening that day – both in our communities as well as the world at large. We also consume our breakfast, coffee, or other morning routines. These routines are meant to fortify the body and mind to prepare us for the day ahead. But when we start our day by only consuming, we lose out on a real opportunity to give and to divulge. These are actions that fortify the soul. We all fall into and out of bad habits in life, and neglecting to fortify our souls each morning in God’s presence and word always leads to the same place over time: emptiness. Without God’s presence each day in our lives, there is no amount of consumption that can fill the void. In Psalm 5, it says, “In the morning, LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.” Today, fortify your soul by giving your time and focus to God and divulging to Him what is truly on your mind.

“In the morning, LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.” – Psalm 5:3 NIV
