In the wake of the destruction brought by Hurricane Florence, the people of North and South Carolina and Virginia are still struggling to literally “stay afloat.” If we put ourselves in their shoes, what would we do if one day our home, all our possessions, and our job were taken away from us? It would be an incredibly scary time in which our days would be spent surviving until the next rather than planning for the future. The Bible is full of stories of people losing everything, having to start over, or being called to accomplish some Herculean task. As they were all just men and women like us, there is no doubt that fear was ever present in their minds in those times. But in each case, they endured what challenges lay before them by trusting in God. In Psalm 56, it says, “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you." If we do not trust God in the tough times, we will not grow into His blessings in the good times. Today, pray for those continuing to be affected by Florence’s aftermath and give thanks for God’s goodness and unwavering support.

“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you." – Psalm 56:3
