When we are in the midst of turmoil, rapid change, confusion, or struggle, learning lessons in life seems like the least important thing for us to do. Our minds tell us we must survive, endure, resist, or generally fight until we can get through whatever is challenging us. During these times, we are the most susceptible to false doctrines and cunning pitches because we are seeking some way, any way, to improve our current situation. It is maturity that allows those with it to view struggles as fleeting instead of life ending. When we have climbed insurmountable mountains before, climbing another is not so daunting. But where do we find our footing to begin an arduous climb? In Ephesians, Paul wrote, “So that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ.” By maturing in our faith, we become ever stronger in facing the challenges of life. Today, ask Jesus to help you grow from the place you are currently in your faith to the next level of trust and dependency.

“So that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ,” – Ephesians 4:14-15 ESV
