With only a handful of days left in 2018, many are beginning to think about what they want to change in their lives come January 1st. The beginning of a new year is often seen as a great time to make new lifestyle, relationship, work, or personal changes that will bring about more happiness and success that year. There are many things we can change, but only one that will deliver the lasting happiness and peace that we all deep-down crave – starting a real, loving relationship with Jesus Christ. Jesus told his disciples that the most important commandment is “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” He did not place this as the most important commandment to self-aggrandize or force us into some sort of unwilling servant role to God. Jesus tells us that loving God is the most important commandment because it is the one thing we can do that will guarantee both happiness on earth and everlasting life in Heaven. Without a real, committed, loving relationship with God – where He is glorified above all other people and things in our lives – we cannot hope to live the life we hope for. Today, if you feel that your priorities in life may have skewed over the last year, make the decision to re-order them with God as number one.

“And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” – Matthew 22:37 ESV
