Happy Elevated Friday! Today we highlight a story of God blessing a young man who acted with generosity without the slightest thought of ever being paid back. In the Princeton, Texas Walmart, John Lopez Jr. is a dedicated cashier who everyday brings a smile, a laugh, or some sort of pick-me-up to the customers in his line. Recently, he did even more. A woman was buying groceries and realized she was short on money. Without missing a beat, John offered to pay for her bill himself — all $110 of it. One of the other people in line saw this and snapped a photo for Facebook. The post went viral because of the incredible kindness John acted with. Then God stepped in. Another member of the Princeton community saw the post, recognized John, remembered how kind and upbeat he always was, and decided to start a GoFundMe page on his behalf. He set the goal for $1000 but in just a few days, because of the people John has touched with his kindness, it has surpassed $34,000! John plans to use the money to pursue a college degree that will truly revolutionize his life. That is an example of God doing so much more than we could ever imagine — something that only He could do.

We can do many things by ourselves. We can give our own money, we can say kind words or bring a smile to others. We can do all that and more by ourselves. But when we trust in God and act for the glory of His name instead of our own, things happen that we could never anticipate or accomplish on our own. In James, it says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” God is the ultimate giver of life changing blessings, and God moves when we move first. Today and this coming year, lead with generosity and kindness in the name of Jesus and just wait and see the blessings that come your way.
