Thankfully, the government is reopening and workers are returning to their paying jobs. For the next three weeks though, the pressure is on Congress to get a grand deal done to continue its functioning. Though it is a relief to many that the government is reopening, prayer for our leaders and country is still incredibly necessary. When we pray for more than just our own wants or needs, we create real change rather than just receive what we need to get through the day. In James, it says, “Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” Praying for each other has two effects: it lifts others up to God and lifts our eyes off our own desires and problems. Today, pray for our nation and its leaders that we may be able to come to some sort of agreement or compromise for a better future.

“Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” — James 5:16 NIV
