The Governor of Virginia made big news last week because of his comments on abortion as well as a disgusting picture that appears on his medical school year book. In the frenzy of commentary, both in the media by public figures as well as people all across social media, opinions ranged widely. We all have the temptation to voice our opinions when things we disagree with are happening or things we agree with are threatened. But in speaking up, the Bible warns us to always be wary of the manner in which we do it. In Luke, Jesus says, “For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” Taking a stand for Christ is justified and good; however, taking a stand to glorify ourselves is simply pride and vanity. When you speak out against that which you know to be wrong, be sure to use your words to glorify Christ and be cautious not to allow the attention to go to your head. Today, review the things you’ve said on social media or in person through a Christ-focus lens. Make changes to those things you wouldn’t say in Jesus’ presence.
