Now that the 2020 presidential race is “off to the races,” we all have an opportunity to listen to the various arguments and make judgments on past records for each candidate. What this decision boils down to is a decision on whom to follow. While we all should be striving to follow Jesus first, we all should also be active in our nation’s democracy. However, when we make decisions on whom to follow, too many of us think only of the now – what that decision affords us today – rather than where that path is really leading. The path of Jesus leads to life, light, salvation, and peace; but when we choose to follow the wrong person – political candidate or personal contact – we must do so with our eyes on the long-term. Proverbs tells us, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.” No man or woman can lead us to salvation, but God raises up people in our lives at different times to help us towards His end for us. Today, be mindful of your decisions – both politically and personally – on whom to follow as whom we follow determines where we end up.
“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.” – Proverbs 14:12 ESV
