Elevated Friday, April 26th, 2019

Happy Elevated Friday! Today we highlight a story of a young man in Oxford, AL who welcomed an elderly woman to eat with him and his friends instead of ignoring her to eat alone. Jamario Howards and his friends were sharing meal at a diner and saw an elderly woman eating alone. Rather than just ignore her and keep his plans to eat with his friends, Jamario took a step out of his comfort zone and sat down with the woman. He quickly learned that her husband had recently passed away and the next day would have been their 60th wedding anniversary. Upon hearing this, Jamario immediately invited her to sit with him and his friends for their meal. They laughed and talked and had a great evening together. Jamario said of the evening, “The point in this is always be kind and be nice to people. You never know what they are going through. This woman changed my outlook on life and how to look at other people. Everyone has a story, so do not judge!”

We’ve all had moments where we feel a tug of the Holy Spirit to do something, say something, or change our plans in order to help someone else. If we are honest with ourselves, we don’t answer this call often enough. Taking that step is a matter of faith, as we do not know what we are about to get ourselves into. But who are we to question the calls of the Holy Spirit? Jesus said, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” To us, taking a step of faith can sometimes seem like taking a Las Vegas-style gamble because we cannot see what the future will hold. To God, our step of faith is just a step closer to him. He sees each of our steps before we know where to place our feet and blesses the ground that leads us to Him. The Holy Spirit tells us where to go next and gives us the power and conviction to do so. Today, if you feel a tug of the Holy Spirit, commit to acting upon it and see what blessing God has for you there.
