Everyday we all have a choice. Most days this choice comes multiple times per day. We choose how we will react when something does not go the way we think it should or wished it would. Whether it is to things in our own lives or things we see happening in the world, we all react in some manner to bad news. It is easy to blame what happens to us or what happens to the world for the words we use or actions we take, but in the eyes of the Lord, our words and actions are solely our own. Paul wrote to the Thessalonians, “So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober.” When we are asleep to the ways in which our reactions affect others, the faith which we profess from our lips is marred by the things the world sees us do to the contrary. In the end, your reaction to others is a reflection of you, not others. Today, choose to react to bad news or setbacks in a Godly way instead of an earthly way.

“So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:6 NIV
