The beginnings of every week bring enormous opportunity but also stress, anxiety, and sometimes, clutter to our minds. Whether it is because of news we consume, concerns with our family, or stress from work, the peace our minds had on Sunday is often erased by what we have to do during the week. When we become anxious over what we have to do during the week, we tend to start thinking of our week as a check-list of tasks to just complete instead of a group of opportunities to glorify God and help others. How many of us would admit that we often fall victim to a “check-list” type of work week instead of a “opportunity-list” week? Paul wrote about overcoming anxiety to the Philippians, saying, “

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Anxiety over what we have to do is the enemy’s way of preventing us from glorifying the Lord in all we do. Today, let go of your Monday anxiety and view your week as an “opportunity-list” to serve the Lord.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 4:6-7 NIV
