On this day 18 years ago, the world awoke as a new place. Americans held their families a little tighter, offered more grace than usual to others, and thought about themselves a little less. The tragedy of what had happened the day before had created a better place, as is always the case with God’s faithful. In the years since, that sense of community has certainly faded and these days the word “community” usually only means “the people we like” instead of “all of the people who live around us.” How can we ever get back to what the word “community” meant on September 12th, 2001? It begins with prayer. The best way to foster a sense of community is to pray for and with others. God blesses us through our communities when our communities seek to bless others. Today, begin by praying for your community – both collectively and for individuals in particular – and seek out others you can pray with corporately.

“Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!” – Psalm 133:1 ESV
