Happy Elevated Friday! Today we highlight a police department that is changing things up during the holiday season in order to even better serve its community. The Bay Village Police Department in Ohio is following the lead of the Lexington, KY P.D. in accepting food donations in lieu of parking ticket fines. Partnering with the Bay Food Ministry, the police are accepting up to $25 in non-perishable food donations instead of the usual fines associated with parking tickets. This food is then donated back into the community during the holiday season to help those in need. While the Bay Village P.D. is not the first to do this initiative, they are hoping that more will follow their lead this year.

We all have talents — some we are born with and others we are enabled simply through the job we do. To God, there is no difference in whether we use an innate talent or a function of our job to help others because it is the same God who is working through us no matter what we do in His name. 1 Corinthians says, “There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.” Service to others less fortunate than ourselves is thankfulness in action. Today, give thanks to God for his blessings by using them to serve others.

“There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.” — 1 Corinthians 12:5-6 NIV
