With the biggest shopping days of the year come and gone, today is recognized as Giving Tuesday. After so much focus on shopping for ourselves and our families and friends, today is a day to give generously to those we do not know, and in some cases, will ever know we gave to them. That really is a gift, right? Giving without any expectation of return. But the idea of giving away what we have for nothing in return is a foreign concept to most and a difficult concept to the rest. No matter how strong our faith or generosity, our earthly desires will never fully leave us until we no longer are bound to this earth. That is why Jesus said, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” We store up our treasures in heaven by living generously and faithfully while on earth. The practice of giving is a Godly one and, just like anything in life, gets easier the more you practice it. Today, give in Jesus’ name to someone or something you feel called to give to but have, for whatever reason, hesitated to do so yet.
