Happy Elevated Friday! Today we highlight a story about a man whose gesture this Christmas showed where his priorities lie. Doug Hayes of Oregon recently made a seemingly strange purchase: a school bus. His ten grandchildren all go to the same small Christian school, but there is not a bus that picks them up for it. He decided to change that by purchasing a school bus to take them to school that he has dubbed the “Grandfather Express.” His small gesture was so that he could spend more time with his grandchildren, but in doing so, Doug showed just how much he values that time with his grandchildren.

God created families and He blesses us most directly through them. Though we will be blessed by strangers and friends in life from time to time, our direct family members are the people God created for us to rely on and be blessed by most often. The oft quoted marriage verse, “What God has joined together let no one separate,” can be applied to the family unit as well. Therefore, the importance of family comes second only to faith, as faith creates blessed families. As we approach a new year, remember that faith and family come before anything else in our lives and when they are out of order, our lives will be out of balance.
