Politics is a dirty game that plays out before us everyday in the news. Cold calculations and feverish arguments are hallmarks of “success” in politics. As the ones such behavior is directed towards, it is easy to be swept up in partisan furor when things don’t go our way and someone is speaking loudly the things our brain likes to hear. But these are not the things are hearts want to hear – our hearts want more of the things of God, not men. While we cannot change the nature of politics any time soon, we can keep ourselves from being swept up by it. The Bible says, “Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools.” The Bible speaks of fools and wise people often and there is a distinct difference between them, but it is not what most would think. The biggest difference between a fool and a wise person is not intelligence; it is patience. Today, resolve to be patient in your mind so that your heart may not be corrupted by the passions of the day.

“Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools.” – Ecclesiastes 7:9 NIV
