We all strain to see the future, both for ourselves and for those we care about, but there is no way to see it clearly. However, there is a way to know that the future will be good – it is following Jesus. We are all called to pick up our own cross and follow Jesus. That path he charts will not be easy but it will lead to great things and a better life. Paul knew this when he wrote to the Philippians, ”Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead.” What lies ahead on the path Jesus leads is always better than what lies ahead on the path we chart ourselves. Today, make the decision to stop charting your own path and instead, follow the path Jesus is making for you already.

“Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead,” -- Philippians 3:13 ESV
