Unlike generations before, we have more access to information, in real time, and the means to broadcast our opinions with ease. With such power comes the responsibility to manage our intake and outflow of information and opinions judiciously. Have you ever heard someone speak who seemed to strike directly at the heart of an issue with nothing but a short story or turn of phrase? It's powerful and refreshing when we hear truth simply stated against a backdrop of blather and political spin. Have you ever wondered why Jesus taught using parables? The reasons are many, but one was because an incredible amount of truth and teaching could be expressed succinctly and memorably through a short story. In an era when politicians and talking heads in the media drone on and on with talking points and one-sided sales pitches, Proverbs 10:19 rings truer than ever. It reads, "The more talk, the less truth; the wise measure their words." With all that is happening before our eyes in the country, we should all measure our words wisely. If we can't elevate a debate closer to Jesus, we shouldn't join it. Pray today for the healing in our nation that only Jesus can provide, and for wisdom and control over our tongues.
