Happy Elevated Friday! Today we highlight a story of big generosity that happened to bless someone in need at the exact right time. Illsia Novotny is a hair stylist in Denver and, like many in businesses shut down by the pandemic, had struggled mightily to make ends meet. Now that her barbershop is open again, she had a customer who, she over heard on his way out say to the receptionist, “Just so you know, it’s not a mistake.” What Illsia soon found out was that purposeful action was him leaving her a $2500 tip! Not only that, but he left $500 for the receptionist, $1000 to the general manager, and $1800 to be divided between the barbershop’s 18 employees. In all, he left a tip of $5,800. His incredible generosity to a group of people impacted severely by this pandemic was truly the blessing they all needed.

Generosity comes in many forms but what holds many of us back from big giving is fear of needing that money ourselves. While there is no guarantee that we will not find ourselves in dire need of monetary help one day, God loves when we provide for those who need it right now. We all know the verse in 2 Corinthians, “ The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.“ Going big with generosity will never cause regret. Today, and in the weeks ahead as the economy opens up again, give to those who have been struggling as if you were the one depending upon that help.

“The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.“ — 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 NIV
