Political ads, political news, and political demonstrations are most of what we hear on the TV and see on the internet these days because it is a presidential election year. Presidential elections have a way of dividing our entire country along clear cut lines and invading our thoughts far more often than they should throughout each day. Because of this, our hearts can all get a little harder and spirits a little more bitter towards each other. But God specifically told us through his prophet Ezekiel that He is able to cure both of those ailments. He said, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” If you feel your heart becoming hardened and spirit becoming bitter towards others this political season, remember that the Holy Spirit can soften any heart when we allow it. Today, reflect on the thoughts you have been having recently about others, especially those you disagree with, and ask the Lord to soften your heart towards them.

“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” – Ezekiel 36:26
