There are some who have no qualms in strongly voicing their opinions and others who are not as confident in doing so; both are perfectly fine. The importance is in the message we convey. Anger, bitterness, and malice in our words may bring followers who already agree with us, but will never sway others to what we believe. So how do we communicate to bring the kinds of positive change we all desire? Look to what God said to Moses. Moses was very leery of his ability to lead and feared if the Israelites would believe what he had to say. God told him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.” When we are facing bitter division in our world, communities, even families, if our first goal is to lift up the name of the Lord, the Holy Spirit will do the speaking for us. Today, pray for the Holy Spirit to speak on your behalf in matters of disagreement, division, and bitterness.

“Moses said to the Lord, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.” The Lord said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.” – Exodus 4:10-12 NIV
