Elevated Friday, November 20th, 2020

Happy Elevated Friday! Today we highlight a story of a young man who has found a unique way to provide for his community using resources most would overlook. This past August, a derecho hit an area of Iowa, whose 140 mph winds wreaked havoc on the area. 12-year-old Tommy Rhomberg’s house was spared but driving around his town, he saw the huge number of downed trees and destruction others faced. He wanted to help and had an idea to repurpose branches of fallen trees into baseball bats. So far, he has made over 115 bats and raised over $2500 for his community. Fittingly, he calls them “The Great Derecho” bats.

We all want to help others in life, but acquiring the resources to do so can be daunting. The Bible says though, “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” When we trust in the Lord, we are like trees planted by water and when we reach out, the resources we need are there. God plants us where He wants us and provides the resources we need to serve His Kingdom when we need them. We need only to look around and reach out to acquire them. Today, look around and reach out for the resources you need or that you can use to help others.

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” — Jeremiah 17:7-8
