The debate over healthcare in the US continues to rage, with both sides digging in their heels and making their case to the American people. Healthcare is such an important issue, and it is something we need to get right. Because so many depend on a functioning healthcare system, even minor changes in wording or phrasing of the legislation makes national headlines. While our politicians argue over the words in the healthcare act, there is another set of words that will not change: the Bible. In Hebrews 11, Paul highlights the unofficial “Hall of Fame” of God’s people. People like Noah, Abraham, and Sarah are lauded because, despite incredibly difficult circumstances, they lived their lives “by faith.” What does it mean to live “by faith”? One way to describe it is living with certainty when the world tells you to be uncertain. With the debate over healthcare causing anxiety and fear to spread, the world will tell you to be uncertain of your future, health, and security. However, we serve a God who does impossible things. By faith, today, be certain that God is working all things for good.

“All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth.” – Hebrews 11:13
