On Friday, our Congressional leaders failed to pass the continuing resolution that would fund our government, thus the government is shutdown. It is a sad state of affairs when politics becomes more important than people, as everyone suffers while the government is shut down. In the Apostle Paul’s day, the church in Corinth suffered similar strife, as members were bringing lawsuits against one another rather than seeking compromise through forgiveness. Paul confronted them on this by saying, “These court cases are an ugly blot on your community. Wouldn’t it be far better to just take it, to let yourselves be wronged and forget it? All you’re doing is providing fuel for more wrong, more injustice, bringing more hurt to the people of your own spiritual family.” Forgiveness today creates space for more forgiveness tomorrow. Today, in your own life, reflect the forgiveness that Jesus taught and pray for the same spirit of forgiveness in Washington.

“These court cases are an ugly blot on your community. Wouldn’t it be far better to just take it, to let yourselves be wronged and forget it? All you’re doing is providing fuel for more wrong, more injustice, bringing more hurt to the people of your own spiritual family.” — 1 Corinthians 6:7-8 MSG
