Happy Elevated Friday! Today we highlight the good news of a true miracle. 13-year-old Trenton McKinley a couple months ago was in a bad dune buggy accident, leaving him with severe brain trauma. After being rushed to the hospital, Trenton was declared brain dead. While on life support, with doctors concluding there was no hope of recovery, Trenton’s parents signed the paperwork to have his organs donated to save the lives of others. Trenton’s mother saw that his once blue eyes had faded to black, and she knew that her son would not have hesitated to make the same decision. However the day before Trenton was to be taken off life support, he miraculously regained consciousness! Doctors saw his hand move, then his foot, and when they looked at his eyes, they weren’t blue – they were green with “specks like glitter.” His mother said, “They say when you look upon God…pigment changes…and my baby was in heaven for a whole day…he is a miracle.” Trenton believes he went to heaven as well, as he recalls that he was “in an open field walking straight. There’s no other explanation than God. There’s no other way. Even doctors said it.” While Trenton still faces challenges in his recovery, ever since, he has been steadily regaining strength.
We all have faced situations in life when death was at our door – either the death of a loved one, death of a relationship or job, or actual death for ourselves from illness or injury. It is a terrifying time, when we see the end coming but feel powerless to stop it. But our God does not feel those same fears because he is all powerful. As He proclaimed in Jeremiah, “I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?” This is why faith in the face of fear and death should not be our last option, but instead be our best option. With faith in our all-powerful God, the impossible is possible. Today, give praise to God for his goodness and make the choice to have faith as your first option in times of trouble instead of your last.
“I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?” – Jeremiah 32:27 NIV
