Paul Manafort was sentenced again yesterday for crimes committed in service of his businesses, making big news because he is the former Chairman of the Trump campaign in 2016. His crimes could easily be summed up by the sin of greed. Greed is a powerful sinful force we all grapple with in life that only gets more powerful the more money we make. For most of us, the way we make money is through our work. If our motivations for work are not in line with Jesus’ teachings, that’s when greed can begin to creep into our lives. Colossians says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” Whatever our line of work, we can fight back the temptations of greed when the purpose of our work is to serve the Lord. Today, think of what motivates you to work and consider how it lines up with Jesus’ teachings.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,” — Colossians 3:23 NIV
