This week will be a big one for the nation and the news media as the impeachment trial of President Trump begins in the Senate. There is sure to be heightened partisan debate and full throated arguments in every direction. There’s also sure to be cynical and sometimes cruel internet memes and posts that are tempting to share. There’s very little that any of this accomplishes other than ginning up fervor on each side. Political understanding and civic duty are good things, but fanaticism is not. Fanaticism is where the wicked gain the most ground in our lives. The Bible says, “No one can be made secure by wickedness, but the root of the righteous is immovable.” Never allow your partisan opinion move you from your belief in and fellowship with Jesus. Today, root yourself in your relationship with Jesus and allow that relationship to guide all others.

“No one can be made secure by wickedness, but the root of the righteous is immovable.” — Proverbs 12:3 CSB
