After weeks of public feuding, President Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell had lunch yesterday and emerged for a press conference together in which all seemed to be forgiven. Whether or not this was a real fight matters little. The mere fact that after a public dispute, the two men sat down together to break bread and communicate, is a great example for all of us of how we should be communicating with each other. Too often, even just a disagreement on social media is exacerbated so much that it turns into actual hate. Hate burns white hot but dissipates quickly, leaving us feeling empty and sometimes regretful. On the other hand, love burns as hot as you allow it to, and fills you as much as you want it to. In Romans, it says, "Love from the center of who you are; don't fake it. Run for dear life from evil; hold on for dear life to good." When we love Jesus genuinely, rising above our own selfish desires or lonesome fears, we fill ourselves with a love that allows us to then love each other wholeheartedly. When anger rises up within us, remember this: At the end of life, just before meeting Jesus face to face, we will have forgotten why we fought, but we will always remember why we loved. Pray to be filled with the love of Jesus so that you may pour it out into others today.
