As our Congressmen and women are being called to account for their stance on tax reform, the Roy Moore allegations, and many other current events, for the casual bystander, that sort of life seems chaotic and stressful. Such is often the consequence for acquiring power or leadership responsibility. For many, the idea of having power is at odds with having peace, especially when watching what happens in the news to those with power. Can we have a life that is both powerful and peaceful? It sometimes seems like the answer is "no". However Jesus makes it clear that we can, but only through Him. Power comes from two places: Jesus or the world. We choose either to be fortified in Him, overflowing with His power within us; or we choose to build ourselves up atop the world, pushing others down along the way. Without Jesus, no matter how high we might climb in the world, we will never have true peace--there will always be another battle to fight to cling to that worldly power. However if we choose to pursue power in Christ, then we also then have peace. How do we pursue this power in Christ? It is through surrender, humbling ourselves before Him and magnifying Jesus above ourselves. As Jesus said, "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" Today, refocus your perspective on Jesus, shedding earthly desires for power, money, or fame in favor of the power of Christ within.
