In the aftermath of random acts of violence, such as that in New York City Monday, many question why such things happen in our world. It is, firstly, important to remember that God gifted us with free will, and the ability to choose our own path. To the strong believer, it seems unthinkable to sacrifice eternal life for earthly power, money, or fame; however this is the choice that so many make, living the rest of their lives in unrepentant sin. In Romans, it says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The words “free gift” are striking, because they would seem to catch the eye of those seeking earthly wealth above else. However the funny thing about choosing earthly comfort over God is this: you will spend your entire life chasing what you don’t have only to find the only gift you needed was free. Today, call out to God, thanking Him for His mercy, grace, and love in his gift of Jesus for us.
