It is curious that the almost everything in our lives today has some intersection with politics. No matter what we do, some group has an opinion on it. At its worst, politics is even played as more of a game to see who wins rather than an honest debate over what course our nation should take. If we look at history, it is the leaders who transcended the petty political squabbles of their day and acted with honor and decency who we remember fondly. Thus, it stands to reason that if we prioritize honor and decency to others, we will be doing things right. Paul wrote to the Hebrews, “Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience, desiring to act honorably in all things.” The greatest thing you can do in politics is rise above it. Today, remember that honor and decency are two qualities that depend solely on us, not our surroundings.
