The ongoing evolution of the news cycle each day — pivoting between stories of political battles, real warfare, and only seldom sprinkling in a few positive stories — can lead to a bitter heart if not consistently checked. When we internalize everything we hear and do not let it out, it will eventually wreak havoc on our heart, soul, and mind. When we let it out in the wrong way — I.e. on social media or explosive outbursts — we hurt our own testimony to God’s grace in our life. So what are we to do? We are to devote our heart and mind — and whatever is on them that day — in quiet, private time with the Lord. Psalm 119 gives a great way to begin your quiet devotional time with the Lord, saying, “Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me.” When we feel the need to release what ails our heart and minds, devote it to the Lord in private instead of posting it to social media in anger. When we devote our hearts to the Lord, real healing, relief, and peace will be ours. Today, carve out time to devote what is on your mind to the Lord. Make a habit of doing this everyday.

“Direct my footsteps according to your word;

let no sin rule over me.” — Psalm 119:133 NIV
