Happy Elevated Friday! Today we highlight a story of two rival gangs in South Africa who have not only called a truce during this pandemic, but with the help of a local pastor, are working together for their community. South Africa’s government has imposed some of the harshest restrictions on its population during this pandemic and people are suffering. Even those “at the top of the food chain” — the gangs. Local pastor Andie Steele-Smith got a call recently from one gang leader he pastors who said his gang was starving and no longer able to get by. Andie knew that if that gang was struggling, there was no way the other people of the community were doing well either. So he created a plan to bring two rival gangs together to provide the community with necessary supplies. So far, it has been working fantastically! One gang member said it “feels nice” to be doing something good for the community and that “now [he] sees there are nice people also, and people want to love what were doing now.” Pastor Andie says that this turnaround and alliance between gangs is nothing short of a miracle.
God shows up when people are in need; He always has and always will because He has promised us that. Because we trust this, it is how He does it that we often what marvel at. One would expect a church, business, or Good Samaritan to be delivering supplies to the needy, and those people certainly do, but in a community that is starving of such resources, God makes even the impossible happen. God can reach even who we deem as the worst in society to bring about His plan — to God, they are all His children. We should all take faith in that God’s Will will be done, even by the most unlikely of people. Today, give thanks for God’s provision to the people of Cape Town and His provision for us all.
