As the nation grapples with how to create the change necessary to prevent discrimination and unjust death, while at the same time allowing the police to effectively do their jobs, there is a tendency on both sides of the aisle to get angry. Getting angry is normal when passions are ignited but our words seem to fall on deaf ears; however, getting angry is not what will bring the type of change that is of God. The Bible makes clear that our best outlet for change and blessings is through prayer. The Bible says, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God; that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.” We know that the will of God is that all would be reconciled to him through his son Jesus Christ; we also know that it is his will that we would love each other as we love ourselves – he made both of these things clear in Jesus. Thus, blessings and Godly change occur when we are prayerful, but not when we turn from his will to hurt others. Therefore, don’t get angry, get prayerful. Today, pray for the nation, all who are hurting or angry, and for our leaders to enact the kind of measures that honor God’s love for us all.

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God; that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.” – 1 John 5:14 NIV
