There are many in the media discourse today who, behind closed doors, prefer division, and foment anger because it benefits them and their interests. Power is created when people divide because when people divide, they look to others to voice their opinions for them. There are good people on both sides of the political aisle and good people in the media, but too often they are not the ones gaining the most attention because their message is one of cohesion, compromise, and common good. Paul instructed the Romans, “I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them.” Even though we are called not to follow those who create obstacles to our faith, we are still called to forgive them just the same. It is important that we always remember that people are, by nature, fallible but forgivable. We should never place all our trust in them but we also must forgive them when they stray from what is good and righteous in the eyes of the Lord. Today, remember the reasons why we place our faith in Jesus above all others.
