Compromise can be a tough pill to swallow, especially when we do not particularly like the person on the other side of the negotiation. We’re called to love all, but in life, we all will have disagreements and not feeling very loving towards that person is normal. However, we are not called to live as the world lives; we are called to be set apart. What most bitter disagreements lack is both parties coming to the table with love and respect for one another, as well as for those they represent. The Bible says, “And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.” We know that love is patient, kind, and not-self serving by nature. Thus, most bitter disagreements can be overcome if approached with love and respect instead of self-interest. Today, if you are in a disagreement with someone else, so far as it depends on you, approach them with love and respect and ask God to do the rest.
