Happy Elevated Friday! Today we highlight a story of creative giving that is putting both smiles on faces and money towards a great cause. Over the past few years, the seniors at Spiritwood Assisted Living in Washington State have been creating calendars for a couple reasons. First, for fun; second, to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association. What makes these calendars unique, fun, and sell like hotcakes is the pictures themselves. The seniors are dressing up in costumes to recreate the movie posters to some of the most beloved movies in the past few decades. They’ve recreated film posters for movies like Elf, The Blues Brothers, Wayne’s World, and Star Trek, to name a few. They plan to keep going because their efforts, and fun, has resulted in over $14,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association. This group of seniors are showing that generosity and fun can be one in the same.

Anyone who has ever blessed someone else with a gift knows how great it feels to do so. Generosity is one of the greatest experiences we can have in life, and fortunately, it doesn’t have to be just a one-time thing. When we can find ways to both do things we think are fun and be generous in doing so, random blessings to others become a lifestyle of generosity. The Bible says, “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” Today, be cheerful and have fun in the ways in which you give.

“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” – 2 Corinthians 9:7 NIV
