In moments like this, a pandemic and a presidential election year, when emotion and political stakes are high, it’s easy to be swept off our foundation and join a raucous crowd of angry people. However, Christians are called to stand firm against the rising tides of emotion and resist the temptations of the world. We seek understanding so that we may offer love and aid; we do not seek strife so that we may gain power. Whatever the future holds, we are to stand firm with Jesus first, not with a political party. Proverbs says, “A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion.” Taking this a step further, God takes no pleasure in those who merely spout their opinions but neglect to reach out a helping hand. Today, stand firm on the principles laid out in the Bible no matter what the coming days news may bring.
