As 2020 is in full swing, it’s a good time to step back and think for ourselves: what are we each moving towards? Goals in life are great but the path we walk to get to them is never clearly defined. To accomplish the goals we set for ourselves in life is almost always confusing and requires much trial and error along the way. But what about our goals for after this life ends? The road to success there is clearly defined in Jesus. Paul wrote of God’s goal for us, “Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” The prize is eternal life and connection with our Father, and the goal is living a life that serves and glorifies Him. If you struggle to accomplish the goals you set for yourself in life, focus first on the goal God set for you for after this life ends. When we have our our eternal perspective correct, our perspective on life will become clear.

“Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 3:12-14 NIV
