Building over the weekend is pressure on President Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions, in particular, to testify under oath as a response to the allegations in former FBI Director James Comey's testimony last week. In such an intricate investigation coupled with its unending TV news analysis, it becomes very difficult to know what is truth, what we don't know yet, and what is false. The combination of uncertain times with impatient actors tends to yield shoddy results. In Chapter 18 of the Book of John, Jesus is interrogated by Pontius Pilate after his betrayal and arrest. While Pilate dutifully interrogates Jesus, it is only the raucous crowds, swept up in a fit of hysteria, who demand he be convicted. In the interrogation, Jesus proclaims that he was born to "testify to the truth" and that "everyone on the side of truth listens" to him. While the trial of Jesus is far different than our current state of governmental affairs, the common denominator is the hysterical crowd demanding immediate gratification of its demands. Both liberals and conservatives today are demanding immediate results without regard for the discovery of absolute truth. However, what we can trust is that truth is the byproduct of having a conversation with Jesus. Pray today for guidance and the ability to know the truth in your life, and speak to others everyday.
