This week will be remembered in our country for decades to come. Obviously, some will remember only the tragedies and destruction, but for those who were really paying attention, it will be remembered as one of the greatest displays of human generosity in history. The article below highlights but a few examples of that generosity, with stories like a TV reporter saving a truck driver from rising waters and social media being the community it claims to be in order to bring attention to a flooded nursing home in need of rescuing. In addition to these contributions made by attentive people, the private sector in our country has stepped up and shown what makes this country so great. Southwest Airlines rescued evacuees, Anheuser-Busch stopped canning beer and started canning water, and Airbnb set its prices to zero to those left homeless by the storm. These are still just a few examples of the incredible and dutiful giving by our countrymen and women. To see so many people and companies immediately switching from self-interest to selflessness was inspiring to say the least.

In Proverbs, it says “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it.” As usual, the Bible could not say it any better. No-strings-attached giving is the vehicle that will lift our country above the current partisan divide. Just as Jesus laid his life down for us, no-strings-attached, so we also are to lay down our selfish pride in the aid of others. Lay down your pride at Jesus’ feet today and go into the world seeking to help others, no-strings-attached.

“Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it.” – Proverbs 3:27
